GSM Operating System (OS) Licensing:

In addition to the direct and global supply of its extensive GSM product and services  range, Net1, through Prism, has been successfully providing its entire product range, related Value Added Services and associated applications available on a licensing basis for several years now to the following entities:  

• International cards suppliers (Tier 1 card suppliers). 
• Localized / country or customer specific card suppliers (Tier 2 card suppliers).
• GSM Operator level.
• Silicon provider level.

At Card Supplier level:

In contrast to other similar schemes or suppliers, our typical business model to Licensees states that Prism will not compete in the Licensee’s own designated target market for the same business, but rather act as a product enabler to that Licensee.

As a result, our business growth plan includes increasing the quantum of Licensees into areas or countries in which we are not active, or have limited business, rather than trying to establish and grow the business ourselves in all these areas.

The extensive Prism Licensing Program incorporates all the required components, processes and software tools required to enable Licensees to start producing their own GSM products within a very short period of time by using any of the Prism products as a basis. The Licensing Program includes relevant GSM product training and the required technical, product and card manufacturing support channels on 24 x 7 x 365 basis.

Local Enablement of a customer’s card manufacturing facility (allocated third party or sub contractor) is also undertaken in this process to ensure that products selected by Licensees are produced in accordance with relevant specified product definitions and in line with the required end customer requirements.

• Africa
• Asia 
• Vietnam
• Latin America
• Turkey
• Europe  
• Middle East
• Philippines
• Russia

Prism has been the supplier, at Operator level, for one of the two largest Operators in the Philippines and continues to assist this Operator to have the required products for the local markets while ensuring the best possible pricing for the product.

At Operator level:

In this model the Operator can source exactly the same GSM product from a number of pre-selected cards suppliers (including Prism), this makes integration and testing of any new function or feature that much easier. The time to market for new products or features is substantially shortened, as major testing only has to be done with a single platform supplier and not multiple entities trying to implement a specific functions or features on their own respective SIM platforms.

At Silicon Provider level:

The Prism Operating Systems and associated applications are available for licensing at Silicon Provider level. We have developed some very specific GSM products in conjunction with two major Silicon Providers for resale into market by these Silicon Providers as their own products. Product support is provided directly to the Silicon Providers and not to end customers.

Prism’s SUN agreements extend to a Distribution License model, in which Prism can assist smaller / Tier 2 cards suppliers to supply SUN Java™ cards to their own end users, even if they don’t have agreements in place with SUN for the supply of Java™ cards. We recover applicable fees for cards under the Licensing unit price and ensure that royalties and related charges due to SUN are paid.
